Little League has made changes to bat specifications to be used starting in the 2007 season. Before buying a bat make sure it will meet the new Little League specs. The following is posted on the Little League website at http://www.littleleague.org/media/New_Rules_09-06.asp

A rule that makes the following changes to the bat specifications in the baseball divisions:

The color of the bat must be tested and proved acceptable to Little League standards.

The length of the bat must be no more than 36 inches for Senior League (14-16 year olds) and Big League (16-18 year olds). Previously, bats in the Big League Division could be as long as 38 inches.

The maximum diameter of a non-wood bat is 2 5/8 inches. Previously, the maximum width was 2 3/4 inches, but bat manufacturers generally only produce the 2 5/8 inch model.

The difference between weight (in ounces) and length (in inches) for a bat in the Senior League and Big League divisions of baseball cannot exceed minus-three. For instance, a bat that is 32 inches long cannot weigh less than 29 ounces. These divisions are for players ages 14-18. The standard for Junior League Baseball remains the same.

Non-wood bats used in the Senior and Big League baseball divisions are required to meet the BESR (bat exit speed ratio) performance standard. The BESR performance standard is currently used by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations

Our 2006 season ended on June 27, 2006 with the championship games being played in the Minor BB, Major BB, and Junior BB divisions. The Athletics took the Minor BB title, White Sox took the Major BB title and the Pirates took the Junior BB title.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us throughout the season to make this a suucees for the players in the program. There were somedays due to rain that we did not think games would be played but through the efforts of some dedicated managers, coaches, and parents the games got done.

We are now heading into our All-Star tournament where we will be hosting games at our complex for teams of other Little League programs in our district. If you want to complete that last hour or two of assessment duty, please call 845-562-7112 and ask how you can help. We will be needing help in the concessions stand, scorekeepers, field work, and possibly umpires if you have any experience.

Our All-Star teams will begin play on June 29th with our Major SB team. The tournament is double elimination which means you continue to play until the team loses two games. Here's to hoping one of our teams makes it to the "Big Show" which is the Little League World Series for their respective division.

The assessment fee can still be worked off until the end of July. In the month of August we will be reviewing the books to see who has fulfilled the 4 hours needed to get the fee back. Checks will be mailed by the end of August to all the eligible families.

At the end of September we will be electing a new executive board for the 2007 season. If you would like to be a part of our Board of Directors, stop by during one of the all-star games we are hosting and find out what you can do to help

06/26/2006
